Alexis Sellers: Top of Her Class, Earning Over $500K in Scholarships
Alexis Sellers is the embodiment of academic success. Because of her consistency, discipline and sacrifice, Alexis is graduating from E.E. Smith High School ranked first in her class of 228 students. She will not only receive her high school diploma but will also earn an Associate in Arts degree from Fayetteville Technical Community College, a testament to her ability to master college-level coursework while managing the demands of a full high school schedule.
Alexis has been accepted into Spelman College, where she plans to pursue studies in political science and philosophy. In fact, she was accepted into all of the colleges and universities she applied to and has earned over half a million dollars in scholarships so far. After college, she plans on attending a top-ranked law school and becoming a corporate attorney.
“I chose this path because I’m passionate about leadership, advocacy and creating generational opportunities,” Alexis said. “I want to use my voice, education and skills to break barriers and represent excellence in spaces where representation matters.”
While in high school, Alexis has poured herself into campus life. She has been a part of the Student Government Association, STEAM Academy, the National Honor Society, cheerleading and she is the president of the Queens Circle of Success Mentoring Group. She was also crowned Miss E.E. Smith during her freshman, sophomore and junior years. Of all the activities, her favorite is the Queens Circle of Success.
“This mentoring group has taught me so much about leadership, sisterhood and service,” Alexis said. “Being able to serve as president has placed me in positions to lead, organize and build meaningful relationships with other young women. It has helped me grow in confidence, communication and responsibility while allowing me to create a safe and empowering space for female students. Through this experience, I’ve learned the importance of uplifting others, setting an example and leaving a positive impact that lasts beyond high school.”
Alexis has definitely made a positive impact during her time at E.E. Smith. She is leaving behind a legacy for other students to follow, and those who know her well know she will continue to make her mark as she goes on to college.
“What distinguishes Alexis most is not simply the accumulation of accolades, but the consistency of excellence across multiple domains—academics, leadership, service and extracurricular engagement,” said Tamika Morris, lead school counselor. “She represents the highest standard of what it means to be a scholar-leader in a comprehensive public high school setting.”
Alexis is thankful for the E.E. Smith family and the foundation it has instilled in her. She is finishing high school ready for the future, thanks to the academic knowledge and real-life skills she has acquired through challenging classes, leadership opportunities and involvement in different activities.
“Something I worked extremely hard for that people may not have seen behind the scenes is earning my scholarships and stepping into leadership roles,” Alexis said. “A lot of people see the results, like the recognition or opportunities, but they don’t see the late nights, the constant applications, the essays I rewrote over and over or the moments I doubted myself. I had to stay disciplined even when I was tired or discouraged.
“E.E. Smith will always be my home and a place I will forever cherish and appreciate,” Alexis said. “The memories, the lessons and the relationships I’ve built here have truly shaped me into the person I am today. Being part of a community where we proudly say we are ‘1800 Strong’ represents our unity, resilience and school pride. No matter where life takes me, I will always carry my Golden Bull spirit with me. Go Golden Bulls!”
