Design, deliver, and assess data-driven school counseling programs that are comprehensive in scope, preventive in design, and developmental in nature to improve a range of student learning and behavioral outcomes. School counselors help all students

  • Aapply academic achievement strategies

  • Manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills

  • Strengthen mental wellness and

  • Explore and plan for postsecondary options such as higher education, the military, and the workforce

Appropriate duties include providing:

  • Individual student academic planning and goal setting

  • School counseling lessons based on ASCA Student Standards

  • Short-term counseling for students

  • Referrals for long-term support

  • Collaboration with families/teachers/administrators/community for student success

  • Advocacy for students at individual education plan meetings and other student-focused meetings

  • Data analysis to identify student issues, needs, and challenges

  • Consult and collaborate with education partners to create success for every student

School Counselor Qualifications

  • Hold, at minimum, a master's degree in school counseling

  • Meet the state certification/licensure standards

  • Fulfill continuing education requirements

  • Uphold ASCA ethical and professional standards
