Fort Bragg High School Election Process

Cumberland County Schools (CCS) values our partnership with military families and is committed to providing flexible, stable, and supportive school options. Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, children of active duty service members who reside on Fort Bragg and are eligible to attend Cumberland County Schools may seek to enroll in any comprehensive high school within the district by completing the Fort Bragg High School Election Form. This election process is designed to:

  • Support continuity and stability for military-connected students

  • Reduce unnecessary school transitions

  • Align with district policies, athletic regulations, transportation services, and facility capacity.

The zoned high school for students residing on Fort Bragg is E. E. Smith High School. If no Election Form is submitted, the student is automatically assigned to E. E. Smith High School.

Who Is Eligible?

This option is available to:

  • High school students of active duty service members who reside on Fort Bragg in the geographic area served by Cumberland County Schools.

  • Active duty service members who reside on Fort Bragg and complete the required CCS high school election form.

Transportation Information

  • Transportation for students residing on Fort Bragg is provided only for:

  • Students enrolled in E.E. Smith High School (Bus stop service)

  • Tolson Youth Center bus routes for select specialized programs, including:

  • Students enrolled in Massey Hill Classical High School

  • Students enrolled in The Global Studies Academy at Terry Sanford High School

  • Students enrolled in The Academy of Information Technology (AOIT) at Pine Forest High School

All other families are responsible for providing transportation to their selected school once approved.

How do I begin the process?

The parent or guardian must complete the Fort Bragg High School Election Form.

The Fort Bragg High School Election Form allows families to:

  • Provide basic demographic and contact information

  • Select their preferred comprehensive high schools

  • Review important expectations related to open enrollment, transportation, and athletics

  • Confirm their commitment to the selected schools

  • Sign an acknowledgment of the process and requirements

Upon notification from Student Assignment, parents will then need to complete the CCS Online Enrollment Process at their approved school when they receive confirmation to enroll. Each school will then provide information about orientation, course registration, and scheduling.

Commitment to School Enrollment

  • Families are expected to commit to the approved high school for the entire school year.

  • Students may remain enrolled at the high school through graduation as long as they continue to reside on Fort Bragg.

  • Annual renewal of the election is required to confirm continued residency and school selection.

  • Parents are responsible for ensuring timely transportation to and from school and ensuring their child is in good standing. If a student’s tardiness or absences become a concern, the assignment approval may be rescinded in accordance with Regulation Code 4150-R1.

What Happens If a Family Moves Off Fort Bragg?

  • The student will be allowed to remain at their selected school through the end of the current school year.

  • Families may request a voluntary transfer to remain at the selected school for subsequent years in accordance with CCS Board policies.

  • Transportation and athletic eligibility will follow standard district procedures.

Athletic Eligibility

In accordance with district and athletic association guidelines:

  • Students must declare their athletic eligibility when selecting their high school.

  • This process ensures compliance and avoids competitive advantages.

  • Athletic eligibility will be affected by subsequent transfers unless there is a bona fide move.

Families should speak with the school athletic director, if they have questions about athletic participation.

School Assignment Confirmation and Online Enrollment

  • After completion of the election form, an automated email will be sent to the parent/guardian confirming receipt.

  • An official approval notification of school assignment with next steps for school enrollment will be sent to the parent/guardian to confirm approval from the Student Assignment Office..

  • The parent/guardian will then need to complete the official CCS Online Enrollment at their approved school when they receive confirmation to enroll.

Key Dates

  • The launch date is April 20, 2026.

  • Families are encouraged to submit forms early to support timely enrollment and scheduling prior to the start of each school year.

  • Families that are new to the area may complete the Election Form upon establishing residency at Fort Bragg.

Will I need to resubmit the Election Form in subsequent years?

Yes, applications will have to be renewed annually through Student Assignment to confirm continued residency at Fort Bragg.
