Cumberland County Schools (CCS) congratulates Christopher Butler Jr., an 11th-grade student at Pine Forest High School, on being selected to serve on the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council (SSAC). Butler will serve as a Student Advisor representing the Sandhills Region.
Butler was selected from more than 3,000 applicants for just 24 positions statewide and began his two-year term on September 28.
As a member of the SSAC, Butler joins high school students representing North Carolina’s eight education regions in providing State Superintendent Maurice "Mo" Green with a student perspective on issues affecting schools. The council meets virtually each month, giving members opportunities to learn from leaders and experts representing the N.C. Department of Public Instruction, State Board of Education, General Assembly, Governor’s Office and other organizations.
Throughout their terms, student advisors share their ideas and perspectives on ways to support students, educators, school districts and charter schools across North Carolina.
At the conclusion of the year, council members will have the opportunity to participate in Student Advocacy Day at the N.C. General Assembly and also meet with State Superintendent Green during their visit to Raleigh.
