Cumberland County Schools (CCS) proudly celebrates two exceptional school social workers who have been named the district’s 2026 Faye Huckabee Social Workers of the Year.
Tracey Smith of Lucile Souders Elementary School has been named the Elementary Social Worker of the Year, while Latasha Smith of South View High School has been named the Secondary Social Worker of the Year. The honorees were recognized during a special Social Work Month celebration recently held at the Way2Real Community Center, where CCS social workers gathered to celebrate the impact of their work across the district.
Selected by their peers, these outstanding professionals exemplify passion, leadership and an unwavering commitment to supporting students and families. According to CCS Social Work Coordinator Pamela Story, Tracey Smith with 12 years of service and Latasha Smith who has served eight years, are both recognized as invaluable assets to their schools and the communities they serve. In addition to their daily impact, both serve as leaders and mentors within the district, supporting beginning social workers and interns while consistently going above and beyond in their roles.
This prestigious award, named in honor of Faye Huckabee, a former school social worker known for her heart for service, reflects the very essence of CCS social work. School social workers serve as a vital link between home, school and community, helping ensure students have the support they need to thrive.
