Cumberland County Schools (CCS) has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), recognizing the Cumberland County Board of Education for excellence in governmental budgeting.

The award reflects the commitment of the Board of Education and district staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. To receive the award, the district had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.

These guidelines assess how well a budget serves as:

  • a policy document

  • a financial plan

  • an operations guide

  • a communications device

To earn the award, budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories and in 14 mandatory criteria within those categories.

This recognition highlights the continued work of CCS’ Business Operations Department, which plays a critical role in ensuring the district’s financial planning remains transparent, strategic and aligned with the needs of students, staff and schools.

The Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program includes more than 1,900 participants across North America, recognizing governments that demonstrate excellence in budgeting and financial transparency.

This recognition follows another recent national honor for CCS’ Business Operations Department, which earlier this year received the Meritorious Budget Award from the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) for excellence in budget preparation and presentation.
