As the weather warms up, Cumberland County Schools (CCS) is excited to announce an expanded lineup of spring sessions through Cumberland Family Academy (CFA), the district’s family engagement outreach arm. CFA is taking helpful resources directly into neighborhoods and online for families across the district.
Family Engagement Cruiser Stops
This spring, the district’s Family and Community Engagement Cruiser will be on the road, traveling into communities to make it easier and more convenient for families to access important information and services. From Pre-K registration and Kindergarten enrollment support to FAFSA completion assistance for families preparing for college, the district is committed to removing barriers and meeting families where they are.
Families can stop by designated community locations to receive hands-on support, ask questions and connect with staff members who are ready to help children start strong and stay on track.
Virtual Lunch-and-Learn Sessions
In addition to the bus stops, Cumberland Family Academy is launching a new virtual Lunch-and-Learn series designed to fit into busy schedules while offering meaningful, practical guidance for families.
This spring’s virtual sessions will cover topics such as:
Navigating Infinite Campus and staying connected to student progress
Understanding bus safety and student expectations
Building strong partnerships with teachers and school staff
Exceptional Children’s Services and understanding IEPs
Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways in Cumberland County Schools
Supporting learning at home
Promoting student wellness and emotional health
Each session is designed to equip families with practical tools they can use immediately to support academic achievement, personal growth and long-term success.
All events are free. Families attending select in-person bus stops may also enjoy door prizes, gift cards, food and other giveaways as a thank-you for their participation, while supplies last.
“We know that family engagement is one of the most powerful drivers of student success,” said Dr. Lindsay A. Whitley, associate superintendent for Communications and Community Engagement. “If we are serious about becoming one of the highest performing school districts in North Carolina, we must make it convenient for families to access the tools and information they need. Cumberland Family Academy is about removing barriers, strengthening partnerships and ensuring every family feels equipped and supported. Whether joining in person or online, Cumberland County Schools looks forward to partnering with families this spring to support every student’s success.”
Families are encouraged to visit the Cumberland Family Academy website to view the full calendar of upcoming bus stops and to pre-register for the Lunch-and-Learn sessions.
About Cumberland Family Academy
Cumberland Family Academy (CFA) provides FREE workshops and educational events for the families of Cumberland County Schools (CCS). As part of its strategic plan, CCS launched CFA during the 2020-21 school year. From research, we understand that students achieve more when families are involved in their education. The purpose of the CFA program is to provide families with tools to support the success of their children’s education and to bring schools, parents/guardians, families and community organizations together as equal partners.
