Cumberland County Schools will continue asynchronous remote instruction for students on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, as hazardous road conditions and ongoing cold temperatures persist. After members of the district’s Auxiliary Services team assessed road conditions today, several roads, parking lots and entryways in shaded areas were still icy. This decision was made with the safety of students, staff and families as the top priority.
This means students will complete assignments online at their own pace and will not log in for live classes. Teacher-provided assignments may be digital and posted in Canvas, Google Classroom or other school-approved platforms, or provided as paper packets sent home prior to the weather event. Because there will be no live video sessions or required login times, students are expected to work independently at a pace that works best for them. Teachers will be available by email during regular school hours to support students who have questions or experience technical issues.
Elementary and middle school students will have five days to complete and submit assignments. High school students will have three days to complete and submit assignments. Completion of assignments will be used to verify student attendance.
All after-school activities, including athletic practices and events scheduled for Wednesday, are canceled. Prime Time will also be closed.
Students enrolled in college courses at Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville Technical Community College or through College Connections should follow guidance from their school principal.
District offices will reopen on Wednesday on a two-hour delay, with 12-month school-based and district employees reporting in-person two hours later than normal. All remaining staff will work remotely. Employees with questions should contact their direct supervisor for additional guidance.
CCS will continue to prioritize the safety of students, staff and families. Any additional updates will be shared with families through the ParentLink mass notification system, as well as on the district’s website and social media channels.
