Cumberland County Schools (CCS) recognized two outstanding contributors this evening for their dedication to our students and community. Christy Parker received the Extra Mile Award for exemplifying compassion through her work as Exceptional Children's Department Chair and Case Teacher, ensuring students have the support they need to thrive. The Fayetteville Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club earned the Committed Community Support Award for their ongoing service to students, families, and staff through giveaways, charity rides, and generous support of the school’s food and clothing closet.
Extra Mile Recipient:Christy Parker
The Extra Mile Award recognizes employees who consistently exceed expectations and inspire excellence. December’s recipient, Christy Parker of Cape Fear High School, was selected for her compassionate leadership and exceptional organization. Along with leading the Exceptional Children's Department, she sponsors the Beta Club, coordinates school proms, and oversees the Freshman Mentor Program. She also ensures smooth award ceremonies, memorable graduations, and meaningful senior traditions such as Senior Sunrise and the Senior Picnic.
“Christy’s tireless efforts, leadership, and genuine care for others make her an outstanding nominee who truly embodies our motto: Colt Pride Never Stops,” said Tracy Autry, an Exceptional Children’s teacher at Cape Fear High School who submitted the nomination.

Committed Community Support Recipient:The Fayetteville Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club
The Committed Community Support Award recognizes individuals or groups whose dedication strengthens our school community.
December’s honoree, the Fayetteville Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club, truly embodies that spirit. Through their annual Thanksgiving Box Giveaway—led by Chairperson Valerie Miller—they provide meals to families in need. They’ve also hosted charity rides benefiting the school, raising funds that help sustain the food and clothing closet and support essential student activities.
“The Fayetteville Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club’s commitment to giving back shines through in every effort they make. Their support has strengthened our ability to serve students and families in need. I’m proud to nominate them for this award,” said Dr. Tremaine Canteen, principal of Cumberland Academy 6–12 Virtual School.
