Custodial Banquet

Cumberland County Schools recently celebrated the outstanding dedication of its custodial professionals during the 2025 Custodial Services Appreciation & Awards Banquet, held at New Century International Elementary School. The event honored the individuals and school teams whose commitment and service ensure CCS schools and office buildings remain clean, safe and welcoming for all.

The prestigious Neil Brown Service Award, presented to an individual who exemplifies outstanding service, integrity, good citizenship and serves as a role model for colleagues and the broader community, was awarded to Dennis Wallace, the head custodian at Gray’s Creek Middle School. Wallace was praised for his hard work, consistency and unwavering dedication to maintaining a high-quality learning environment.

The district also announced the Housekeeping School of the Year, which was awarded to the custodial team at Vanstory Hills Elementary School, led by Head Custodian James Blackmon. This honoree is selected from the pool of “Housekeeping School of the Month” recipients and recognizes a school whose custodial team demonstrates exceptional leadership, teamwork and pride in their building. The team was thanked for their outstanding leadership and for all they do to uplift their school community.

Through these recognitions, CCS proudly celebrates the custodial professionals who do more than what is required of them, every day. Their dedication strengthens the district and helps create brighter futures for every student.
