Today, Cumberland County Schools (CCS) Superintendent Dr. Marvin Connelly, Jr., announced two principal transfers for the 2025-2026 school year.
Dr. Catherine Abraham-Johnson will become the new principal of Massey Hill Classical High School, succeeding Dr. Douglas Massengill, who will transition to serve as the principal of Terry Sanford High School. Both leadership transfers are being made as part of the superintendent's transfer authority, which does not require Board of Education approval.
Dr. Abraham-Johnson currently serves as the principal at Terry Sanford High School, a role she has held since 2023. She previously served as principal at E.E. Miller Elementary School and has held a range of administrative positions across the district, including assistant principal roles at Cumberland Mills Elementary School and Terry Sanford High School. Her career also includes experience as an instructional coach and classroom teacher. Dr. Abraham-Johnson holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, a Master of Education in Reading from Fayetteville State University and a Master of School Administration from UNC-Wilmington.
Dr. Massengill has led Massey Hill Classical High School since 2022. Under his leadership, the school increased Advanced Placement (AP) enrollment by 52% and earned its first-ever AP Honor Roll "Silver" and "Access" designations. He previously served as principal in Sampson, New Hanover and Moore counties, and he began his administrative career as an assistant principal in Harnett County. He also taught middle school social studies in Cumberland and Hoke counties. Dr. Massengill holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership, as well as specialist and master’s degrees, all from Gardner-Webb University.
Under the leadership of Dr. Abraham-Johnson and Dr. Massengill, CCS looks forward to the continued progress and success at both schools.
