HL April 2025 Extra Mile and Committed Comm. Awards

Cumberland County Schools (CCS) proudly recognizes two exceptional individuals for their dedication and impact. South View High School (SVHS) Athletic Clerk Linda Buie has been awarded the Extra Mile Award for her outstanding performance and commitment to excellence. Tony Strickland, a proud alumnus of Pine Forest High School, is the recipient of the Committed Community Support Award in recognition of his longstanding support and service to the school community.

Extra Mile Award Recipient Linda Buie

The Extra Mile Award honors employees who consistently exceed expectations, demonstrating outstanding performance and inspiring others to strive for excellence.

Linda Buie, who is April's recipient, was selected because she has consistently demonstrated excellence in her work, playing a vital role in ensuring that athletic events run smoothly and successfully, according to SVHS Assistant Principal Dorothy Woodfork, who nominated Buie.

"Her commitment to our student-athletes, parents and community is evident in her tireless efforts to plan, manage and host events with precision and care. She has gone 'above and beyond,' working long hours—late nights and early mornings to make every game and competition a memorable experience."

Committed Community Support Award Recipient Tony Strickland

The Committed Community Support Award honors individuals or groups for their steadfast dedication and generous contributions to the school system.

April's winner, Tony Strickland, has donated his time and money to build the Pine Forest High School Soccer fieldhouse and stadium. Outside of donating these facilities, he has continued to help maintain the building and grounds. The school's soccer complex was named after his son, Scott, who tragically passed away following an accident.

Pine Forest High Assistant Principal Mandy McMillan, who nominated Strickland spoke highly of him and what he has done for the school. "For over a decade, Tony has donated numerous volunteer hours and several thousands of dollars to Pine Forest. Strickland is 'a true community partner' and he is truly appreciated at Pine Forest High School."
