School Report Cards Welcome Letter (2024-2025)

Dear Community Stakeholders,

Thank you for your ongoing support of Cumberland County Schools (CCS). Serving nearly 49,000 students across 86 schools is a responsibility we do not take lightly and your partnership helps us strive for excellence every day.

The 2024-25 accountability results released by the state show both progress and opportunities. Our graduation rate rose to 86.3% and 78% of our schools met or exceeded growth expectations, outpacing the state average. Math 3 saw its largest subject gain, rising 8.7 percentage points. Nearly half of our schools improved their composite proficiency scores. These gains reflect real momentum and the hard work of our students, teachers and school leaders.

However, there is still more work ahead. Currently, 27 schools are designated as low-performing. While many of these schools met growth or made achievement gains, we remain committed to working together to ensure continued improvement.

We are responding with urgency. We are sharpening instruction, holding ourselves to higher standards and deploying focused supports where they’re needed most. Our vision is clear: to become one of the top-performing school districts in North Carolina, ensuring every child leaves CCS ready for college, a career and life.

I encourage you to review your school’s data in detail, talk with your principal and lean into opportunities to be part of the solution. You can also explore ways to partner and volunteer by visiting www.ccs.k12.nc.us/ceo.

Thank you for believing in our students, caring about their future and committing to the work that must be done. Together, we will move our district forward.

With gratitude,
Dr. Eric C. Bracy
Superintendent, Cumberland County Schools
