Bio
My name is Danielle Scurlock, and I proudly served as a teacher in Cumberland County for the past 10 years. After the birth of my daughter, I recently stepped away from the classroom full-time. I am a mother of two, one child in second grade and a one-year-old. I have lived in Fayetteville since 2001.
I attended Douglas Byrd Middle School and graduated from Westover High School in 2006, which has given me a deep understanding of the Westover community and its diverse demographics. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Social Work from Fayetteville State University, followed by my Elementary Education licensure, also from FSU. I have a strong passion for supporting children and families and helping students grow through meaningful and varied learning experiences.
What inspired you to become a Family Ambassador?
I was inspired to become a Family Ambassador because I wanted to remain connected to students, families, and the community while no longer being in the classroom full-time. This role allows me to continue serving the Westover District in a new way by working closely with families and schools. I am also motivated by the opportunity to positively impact my son’s elementary school experience and to give back to the staff and school community that has meant so much to my family.
What are you most excited about in this role?
I am most excited about being able to share my knowledge and experience with parents. As a former educator and current parent, I understand that navigating the school environment can sometimes feel overwhelming. I look forward to helping families feel welcomed, supported, and confident when engaging with their child’s school.
Fun Fact
A fun fact about me is that I love painting—especially walls, not paper! I enjoy refreshing spaces in my home and changing the mood and vibe through color and design.
What’s one thing you love about being involved with your school community?
One thing I love most about being involved in the school community is the strong sense of connection and collaboration. When families, staff, and students work together, it creates a supportive environment where children can truly thrive.
