Name: Takieyah Mathis
Email: Area1@ccsambassador.com
Bio:
My name is Takieyah Mathis, and I’m a Fayetteville native, wife, mom, community advocate and nonprofit leader. I’m passionate about helping people feel seen, heard and supported. Outside of my work with Cumberland County Schools, I enjoy spending time with my family, creating, writing poetry, serving my community, attending events, and finding new ways to bring people together. I’m also the founder of The Standing Light Foundation, where I focus on advocacy, mental health, chronic illness awareness, family support and community wellness. My family and community are a huge part of who I am and why I believe strongly in the power of connection.
What inspired you to become a Family Ambassador?
I became a Family Ambassador because I believe families deserve to feel like valued partners in their children’s education. Sometimes families simply need someone to listen, help them find the right resource, or remind them that their voice matters. I wanted to be that person. My own experiences have taught me the importance of having advocates and supportive people in your corner and I wanted to bring that same sense of connection, encouragement, and support to other families.
What are you most excited about in this role?
I’m most excited about building relationships with families and helping create stronger connections between families, schools, and our district. I’m looking forward to learning from families, sharing resources and opportunities, encouraging participation, and helping make sure families know that they have a place at the table. I’m especially excited about seeing how small connections can lead to meaningful change for students and families.
Fun Facts - Share a fun or surprising fact about yourself
A fun fact about me is that I’m a creative at heart! I’m a published author and poet, and I’ve also explored modeling, acting, dance, event production, and other creative projects. I have been on major tv and movie networks. I love finding creative ways to communicate, connect with people, and turn ideas into experiences. I also adopted one of Cumberland counties largest parks.
What's one thing you love about being involved with your school community?
I love the impact, the people and the relationships. There is something special about being part of a community where families, educators, staff, and students can come together with a shared goal of helping children thrive. I love being able to connect families to opportunities, celebrate their voices, and help create an environment where they feel welcomed, respected, and supported.
