Bio:
My name is Takieyah Mathis, and I am a proud wife, mother, and community advocate. I live in Fayetteville, NC with my husband, Damien, a Marine veteran and historical artist, and together we are raising our two sons, with a daughter on the way. Family is at the heart of everything I do, and my children’s experiences with eczema, along with my own journey living with chronic illness, have inspired much of my advocacy work.

I am currently pursuing a degree in social work with a background in criminal justice and the medical field. Over the years, I have served as a patient advocate for organizations such as the National Psoriasis Foundation, the Arthritis Foundation, and UCB, where I help amplify patient voices and connect families with resources.

Outside of advocacy and school, I enjoy the arts, writing, and creating community events that bring people together. Whether through art therapy programs, health awareness festivals, or storytelling projects, I strive to build spaces where individuals feel seen, supported, and empowered.

I was inspired to become a Family Ambassador because of my own journey navigating chronic illness and my children’s experiences with eczema. Growing up with an absent single mother, I witnessed firsthand how difficult it can be for parents to balance life’s challenges and still fully engage with their children. This taught me the importance of family support, guidance, and community connection. I now strive to be a resource for other parents who may need encouragement or tools to strengthen those bonds. By sharing my story and experiences, I hope to amplify patient and family voices, connect others with resources, and help families feel less alone. Every story has the power to inspire change, and I want to use mine to empower other families on their journeys.
