Meet Cumberland Road Elementary's Family Ambassador!

Bio:
I am a retired Crime Prevention Specialist from the Fayetteville Police Department with thirty (30) years of service. During this time, I partnered with the Cumberland County School System and implemented the 9-1-1 for Kids program, teaching young kids how to call for help from emergency services. I enjoyed working in the community and helping others sharing important crime prevention information to reduce being targets for crime.

I was a member of the Police Department’s “Faith in Action” outreach group along with the police chaplains, department members, community churches, and other non-profit organizations. The focus of the outreach is to help those in the community who are less fortunate through ministry and provide needed resources.

I served on the Police Department’s “Peer Support Group” assisting those who needed guidance during difficult times by listening to their concerns and helping to identify the path to achieve positive goals. This is one of the ways I gave back to the community, supporting families by inspiring and encouraging them.

What inspired you to become a Family Ambassador?

I was inspired to be a Family Ambassador because of my desire to help others and belief that it takes a village to raise a child. My experience as a single parent and not having the time to dedicate to the school when my son attended Cumberland Road School was also a driving force for me to give back now that I have the time and effort to do so.

What are you most excited about in this role?

I'm excited about the entire ambassador role but sharing resources that can help families in need is very rewarding. It's good to see the excitement of parents and children when they receive kindness from others.
