The Cumberland County Board of Education approved Jill McKenna as assistant superintendent of Exceptional Children's Services during its regular monthly meeting on Aug. 11.

McKenna currently serves as assistant superintendent of Exceptional Children for Johnston County Public Schools, where she leads exceptional children and preschool programs serving more than 6,200 students with disabilities across 49 schools.

She previously served as assistant superintendent of Special Education Services and senior director of Policy and Fiscal Compliance for Wake County Public School System, as well as senior executive director of Student Support Services for Person County Schools.

McKenna earned her Master of School Administration from North Carolina State University and her Bachelor of Science in Special Education from Western Carolina University. She brings more than 25 years of experience in education.

“Mrs. McKenna brings extensive experience in exceptional children's services and a strong commitment to supporting students, staff and families,” said CCS Superintendent Dr. Eric C. Bracy. “We look forward to the leadership she will bring to Cumberland County Schools.”
