The Protecting Our Students Act requires public school districts to educate students in grades six through 12 and staff with information to identify acceptable and unacceptable student-teacher interactions. The North Carolina Center for Safer Schools has developed an age-appropriate video to be shown to students and staff that meets the statutory requirements. After watching the video, students will be able to:
-Understand what inappropriate behavior by an adult is and what it might look like if it is happening to them or someone they know
-Know how to practice healthy behaviors and skills to stay safe
-Identify a responsible adult who they could ask for help
The "Protecting Our Students" video will be shown at Reid Ross Classical School on July 17, 2025 at 8:30 am during homeroom classes followed by a debriefing session. Parents may opt out of allowing their child to view the video by completing the form provided to students at open house and on Wednesday July 16. The opt out form must be returned to homeroom teachers by July 17, 2025.
As parents and guardians, your involvement in your child’s education is imperative. To make informed decisions, parents may preview the video to be presented in your child’s class on Wednesday, July 16th at 4:30pm in the media center .
