School Meal Program at Cumberland Academy

The following message comes to you from Cumberland County Schools. We are reaching out to share an important update on the school meal program for students who attend our Cumberland (Virtual) Academies.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States Department of Agriculture authorized school districts to operate under the guidelines for summer meals. This has allowed the district to provide free meals to all children 18 years and younger, which includes our students who attend the virtual academies. The USDA has authorized the continuation of the summer meals program through the 2021-2022 school year. Therefore, students attending our Cumberland Academies will be eligible to receive free meals at least for the next school year. We are planning to provide meals (based on the availability of staffing) for the virtual academy students.

However, based on federal regulations, the virtual academies do not qualify to participate in the traditional free & reduced school meal program, which is used to qualify students for additional benefits beyond meals, such as reduced driver education fees, waived testing fees, P-EBT, etc.

If you have questions about the meal program, please contact Child Nutrition Services at 910-678-2502.

We thank you for your continued support of our school system.
