Glendale Acres Elementary School and PTA Receive Grants

Glendale Acres Elementary School and PTA Receive Grants

Submitted by Deborah Dowd

The parents and students of Glendale Acres Elementary School will soon be the recipients of two very special grants.  The school received a $2,000.00 grant from Strengthening Parental Involvement in Children’s Education Fund of Cumberland Community Foundation, Inc.  The parental project, Glendale Rocks!, will provide books and painting rocks for each of the school’s students to take home.  Parents will be encouraged to read the books with their children and together paint a rock with characters, scenes, or words from a book.  Then parents can share pictures of their reading and or rock painting activities via Twitter at #K2bears@GlendaleRocks, ClassDojo, or by bringing in pictures.

Moreover, Glendale Acres Elementary School will receive 100 lifesaving bicycle helmets for students thanks to a grant the school’s PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) received through NCDOT’s Bicycle Helmet Initiative.  This is part of an ongoing program to reduce bicycle injuries and deaths in North Carolina.

Glendale Acres Elementary School administration, faculty, staff, parents, students, and Parent-Teacher Association members are very grateful to the Cumberland Community Foundation, Inc. and NCDOT for the generous grants.  We are so appreciative of your community support for education and safety!
