CCS Educator Honored with Leaders and Legends Honoree of the Year Award

High School JROTC instructor receives national award from Women Veterans ROCK! May 30, 2023

Retired Sergeant Major Ruby Murray, JROTC instructor at South View High School, is the recipient of the “2023 Leaders & Legends Honoree of The Year Award” by Women Veterans ROCK. 

The national award is presented to distinguished women leaders who provide exemplary industry leadership, legendary community service, and create life-changing results in service to humankind. 

SGM Murray was recently presented with the award at the Women Veterans ROCK’s annual Summer Civic Leadership Retreat in Pennsylvania. Additionally, Murray became the first JROTC Instructor to get inducted into the Veterans Rock Hall of Fame.

Deborah Harmon-Pugh, the National Campaign Chair at Women Veteran ROCK!, said this to SGM Murray: “Your service to America’s Youth demonstrates a remarkable commitment to excellence in public education; creativity in civic engagement; and legendary leadership in your post-military community service. You are a powerful role model – and – We Salute You!”

Throughout her 26 years of military service and her work as an educator, SGM Murray has maintained a passion for volunteerism and an unwavering commitment to the success of her students, school and community. She has received many awards, including the 2021 President’s Lifetime Achievement Award from President Joseph R. Biden.
