March 20, 2023
In observance of March as Social Work Month, during a special School Social Work professional development session at the Educational Resource Center (ERC) today, the district announced Pamela Stevenson from Terry Sanford High School (TSHS) as Cumberland County Schools' (CCS) 2022-2023 Faye Huckabee School Social Worker of the Year.
The announcement came in front of nearly 100 School Social Workers along with School Board members, and district and school administrators.
According to CCS' Social Work Coordinator Pamela Story, Stevenson was nominated by her school principal, Royvell Godbolt, and then, selected by her peers for the honor.
Story shared that in the nomination statement, Godbolt described Stevenson as "a pillar at Terry Sanford who is the epitome of a great social worker that is selfless, knowledgeable and nurturing but stern, when needed." Godbolt added that Stevenson is the backbone of the Student Services department.
The 14-year school social work veteran oversees the Military Purple Star effort, heads up PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) at TSHS, serves as a mentor to new school social workers and is active in the community.
"Ms. Stevenson advocates for ALL students and finds resources both in and outside of school so that they can be successful," said Godbolt. "Pamela Stevenson is the ultimate professional and is worthy of the recognition of Faye Huckabee School Social Worker of the Year."
