Cumberland Family Academy (CFA), the district's family outreach arm, is joining forces with Mychal Wynn, a nationally renowned educator, author, and college planning expert, to bring Cumberland County Schools (CCS) families two relevant informational sessions.
SESSION I: VIRTUAL MASTERCLASS
Helping Students Thrive Socially and Emotionally After COVID-19: What Every Family Needs to Know
Monday, Nov. 14, 6-7:30 p.m. (CCS Facebook LIVE)
As part of this CFA Masterclass, Wynn will serve as a presenter and moderator of a panel of psychologists, Karen McCord, Psy.D. and Carlton Quarrels Psy.D., who will provide families with practical solutions to address important social and emotional challenges facing students.
Discussion topics will include:
- How the pandemic impacted students' social and emotional well-being
- Warning signs to look for that convey students may need support
- Advice on triggers that families may not be aware of that could negatively impact students' social and emotional well-being
- Tips, resources and strategies to support families in helping strengthen students' social and emotional well-being
SESSION II: CFA FAMILY NIGHT SERIES (IN-PERSON SESSION)
College Planning 101: Cash for College, Financial Aid & Scholarships

Target Audience: 8th-12th grade students and their families
There is free money out there for college, but you just need to know where to find it and prepare in advance to access it. Attend this session to learn tips from an expert on building a successful high school resume, financial aid basics, college costs, scholarships, eligibility determination and specific programs for NC families. Wynn has partnered with families across the country to help students gain access to millions of dollars in scholarships and financial aid. What seems impossible doesn't have to be.
