Statement from CCS Superintendent Dr. Marvin Connelly, Jr. on the Recent Tragedy at Robb Elementary School in Texas

I was riding down the highway when the alert popped up on my phone as breaking news from WRAL and CNN. My heart ached, and my spirit was saddened to hear of this tragedy. I remain speechless that we must face this again in our country. My thoughts and prayers go out to the students, families, and staff of Robb Elementary School and the entire Uvalde community.
Cumberland County Schools (CCS) counselors are available to talk with any student who needs support dealing with this tragedy. Realizing that the traditional calendar schools have already released students for the school year, we will be sharing resources soon on our website and via other electronic means for parents to utilize when talking to their children about this sad day in our country.
Families may see an increased presence of law enforcement at our year-round schools as we work to ensure that our students and staff feel safe during this challenging time.
This is indeed not only a time for action but truly a time for prayer. Our country needs healing in many ways and from many things.
Dr. Marvin Connelly, Jr.,
Superintendent, Cumberland County Schools
