Kindergarten Showcase 2022
Kindergarten Readiness Resources for Families from NCDPI
Virtual Beginners' Day Kick-Off:
An overview of what to expect during the showcase and tools to prepare for registration and school information. This takes place on Friday, April 8, 2022.
Face-to-Face Orientation:
Two scheduled days (April 28 or May 3, 2022) are designated to In-Person Beginners' Day Orientations. Individual schools only need to select one of the following dates.
- Parents complete digital or paper registration and upload documents
- Meet teachers and participate in classroom and school tours
- Learn about school and classroom specifics
Community Events:
There will be events offered at various locations across Cumberland County during the week and or weekends (Day and Evening) to allow incoming Kindergarten parents a variety of opportunities to attend.
- Topics and Tips for a Successful Year (ex: tips to prepare their child for kindergarten success)
- Immunization Tents provided by CCS Health Services allow parents the opportunity to bring their child and receive needed vaccines
Staggered Entry Days:
During the first week of school, Kindergarten students will begin school on a staggered schedule to allow teachers and administrators the time to assess students and build classroom rosters.
What Will Beginners' Day 2022 Look Like?
Schools will host a Virtual Beginners’ Day Kick-Off for families of rising 2022-2023 Kindergarten students on Friday, April 8, 2022. This event is designed to provide parents with an overview of registration requirements, what to expect during the CCS Kindergarten Showcase, upcoming dates, timelines, opportunities to visit schools, and staggered entry information. Communication will be sent from schools as well as the CCS Communication Department. Please note families are not expected to register prior to the Virtual Beginners’ Day. Two In-Person Orientation days are scheduled for April 28 or May 3, 2022; these will occur during the evening. Individual schools only need to select one of the following dates. Teachers and schools will provide pertinent information on this day, allow parents to register and take classroom and school tours.
Community Events for Kindergarten Showcase
Community events will be scheduled and advertised throughout Cumberland County. These events allow parents to learn various topics on preparing their children for a successful year in kindergarten. Immunization tents will be available at these locations for children to receive required immunizations. Registration tables will also be available for parents to complete registration on paper or electronically.
Needed Registration Documentation:
- Birth Certificate Official Copy
- Health Services Requirements
- Immunizations: Shot Record, NC Health Assessment, Confidential School Health Form, and Medications, etc.
- Additional Documents: Age Requirement for Kindergarten Entry, Verification of Address, Student Language Survey Card, School Meals, Transportation, etc.
