CCS to Celebrate Reading with Video Campaign

In celebration of Read Across America Day on March 2, 2021, Cumberland County Schools is rolling out its “Reading Takes You Places” campaign.

The “Reading Takes You Places” campaign promotes the love of reading by asking students, members of the public, local government officials, teachers, and parents to record a video of themselves reading their favorite children’s book. Generally, this is the time of the year when the district would invite members of the community to come and read to CCS students, but in light of the pandemic, this opportunity provides stakeholders the opportunity to read virtually.

The videos can be recorded anywhere, and CCS is encouraging readers to get creative in their video submissions. Readers can dress up, pretend to read to a classroom of children, use music, or anything that will make the reading memorable.

In the video, each reader should announce where they will be reading from and the title and author of the book. Videos can be submitted to goodnews@ccs.k12.nc.us until Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Only one submission per person will be accepted.

By submitting a video, readers are granting CCS permission to share the video with Cumberland County Schools students. CCS will share the videos throughout the month of March. All videos will be considered but not all are guaranteed to be used.

For more information, view the Guidelines for Video Submissions or call 910-678-2303.
