Advancement VIA Individual Determination (AVID) is a yearlong course designed to challenge and prepare students for college, individual careers, and beyond. Students will learn life and academic skills to better prepare them for the future. AVID students participate in strategies focused on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading to support academic growth. Students will be expected to work in this class and pass AVID with a grade of 77 or better.

Volunteer Hours count as the final exam grade.

1 pack of 5 tab dividers (per class) -Dry erase markers
Highlighters/Ink Pens -Tissues
(Blue/Pink/Orange Yellow) -Paper towels
College ruled paper
·Students are expected to be prepared everyday with all required materials.
* Students are expected to log on to their classes via Google Classroom/ Google Meet/Canvas and participate.
* Students are expected to follow all school and CCS rules while in Mrs. Mayhew’s class, to include the dress code.
· Disrespect will not be tolerated, this goes for college professors as well. Any acts of disrespect toward a college professor will earn a student an administrative referral and a call home with no warning.
·Electronic devices will not be used during class unless specified by the teacher. If they are seen during class, they will be confiscated and a parent will need to come pick it up. Please see the CIECHS Student Handbook policy on Electronic Devices.
* Students will not receive phone calls or texts on their phones during class. If a parent/guardian needs to reach a student, they will need to call the school.
* From the student handbook on confiscated electronic devices: Items will be returned only to the student’s parent or legal guardian. Consequences: 1st Offense – 24 hours, 2nd Offense – 48 hours/after school detention, 3rd Offense – 5 days/in-school suspension.

Students will turn in all assignments on the due date, late work is not accepted. Assignments due on a day you were absent are due the day you return to class. It is your responsibility to pick up any work missed and make sure you hand it in on time. You will have 3 days to complete an assignment if you were absent on the day it was assigned.
Long-term projects :
If you are absent the day it was given, you will not be given extra time for this, check Google Classroom.
If you are absent the day that it is due, you must turn it on the next day you are in school. If it is not prepared then it will not be accepted.
Weekly assignments (assignments that are due every week throughout the semester) will be due on the day a student returns from being absent. If it is not prepared then it will not be accepted.
· No name, no credit, no exceptions!
· In order to receive credit for a notebook check, you must have your notebook with you. If you do not have your notebook when I perform a check, then you will receive a 0 for that check.
· Students are expected to log in to Google Classroom/Canvas daily for assignments and updates.
· Students have access to school computers while in class. The computer should be treated with care. Any damages done to a computer while the student has it will become the students’ responsibility.
Ø Students are responsible for what is posted under their name on Google Classroom! Log out of Google Classroom and any other sites before putting up your computer.
*Adopted from Fayetteville State University: Academic dishonesty is the giving, taking, or presenting of information or material by a student with the intent of unethically or fraudulently aiding oneself or another on any work which is to be considered in the determination of a grade or the completion of academic requirements. It is expected that all members of the school community will work to actively deter academic misconduct and thus will share in the responsibility and authority to challenge and make known to the appropriate authority acts of apparent academic dishonesty.
Violations: A student shall be guilty of a violation of the Academic Dishonesty Policy if he or she engages in the act(s) of:
Ø Facilitating Academic Dishonesty: Such conduct includes, but is not limited to, giving unauthorized assistance to another in order to assist that person in cheating or plagiarizing.
Ø Attempt: Such conduct shall include, but not be limited to, attempting any act that if completed would constitute a violation as defined herein.
Ø Cheating: Such conduct includes, but is not limited to, a student receiving unauthorized aid or assistance on any form of academic work.
Ø Falsification: Such conduct shall include, but not be limited to, the unauthorized changing of grades or conduct involving any untruth, either spoken or written regarding circumstances related to academic work.
Ø Plagiarism: Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, copying the language, structure, ideas, and/or thoughts of another, without giving appropriate recognition and/or adopting the same as one’s own original work intentionally or unintentionally.
Ø Double Dipping: Submitting the same or similar assignment to multiple instructors, for multiple classes, without prior permission for each instructor.
First Offense – Zero grade for the assignment, parental contact; Option to redo the assignment for half-credit
Second Offense – Zero grade, parental contact, and administrative referral
