Joe Desormeaux has served as the associate superintendent of auxiliary services since 2018. With 38 years of experience in maintenance and construction functions, he is responsible for transportation, child nutrition, operations (facility planning, construction, maintenance, custodial, warehouse), student activities (athletics) and security.
For nine years, Desormeaux served as assistant superintendent for facilities at Wake County Public Schools (WCPSS) where he led the facilities department for the 15th largest school system in the nation. He was responsible for planning, real estate, design, construction, child nutrition services, custodial and maintenance. The budget included almost $300 million per year in bond funding and over $150 million a year in operating funds with approximately 1,400 design, construction, maintenance, custodial and child nutrition personnel. While at WCPSS, Desormeaux completed a $940 million Capital Improvement Plan, building 15 schools and renovating five schools. He implemented a new recurring 7-year $2.2 billion construction plan including 18 new schools and 16 major renovations.
Desormeaux joined WCPSS in 2001 as senior director of maintenance and operations. He is retired from the United States Air Force.
