Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books is a program for middle school students, grades 6-8. Students at participating schools read books from a list established by the state Battle of the Books committees and then compete in quiz-bowl-style tournaments to test their knowledge of these books. Students are responsible for knowing details from the books as well as the Title and Author of every selection on the list. The 2020-2021 Book List is now available to students as they prepare for competition. Due to COVID 19, this group will not be in the county competition this year but will make every attempt to meet once we return to in-person learning.

Civic Oration

Civic Oration is a club designed to develop a student’s speaking ability in front of an audience. Topics for speeches change from year to year but usually, focus on current affairs in some way. This is an opportunity for students to meet other students sharing an interest in public speaking, competition, speech writing, and to have some fun. The competition is completed at the school level first with winning speeches moving on to the county level in early Spring.Team meetings are held at various times during the year. Forensics

Forensics is competitive public speaking done in a performance format. There are several areas of competition: Storytelling, Duo, Original Oratory, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Humorous Interpretation. Expressive Events include Original Oratory, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Public Speaking. All interested students may try out for Forensics by memorizing parts of a speech at the beginning of the school year.Team meetings are held at various times during the year. Robotics Club

The Techno-Hive robotics team is a gathering of students who are interested in learning about and working with robots. Students must design and build a robot that can compete against opponents from different schools in a series of specific challenges. Robotics helps address the growing demand for teaching science, technology, engineering, and math. Robotics students are designing, building, and programming robots. As students learn what robots can and can’t do they also learn the need for precise instructions.

RUSH is a student-led club that empowers students to put their faith into action to change their school. Students meet weekly to have fun together, grow in their faith, and take part in numerous school/community services. Sponsored by Mr. Donovan Chambers and Ms. Virginia Jicha Our Science Olympiad team works together to compete in 25 events that show off their STEM knowledge and problem-solving prowess. Our 20-21 team has just been established and our season is just beginning. This year all the events will be held virtually, but there will still be plenty of science happening! Students will be practicing several times a week and competing in events that include: making a car out of a mousetrap, building their own video games, identifying birds, solving crimes, analyzing experiments, and building mystery machines.
