Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

  • Contact Kristen Newitt, School Counselor Coordinator, at 910-678-2366.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the development of self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are necessary for academic, career, and life success. SEL fosters life skills that build confidence and support mental and emotional health, enabling students to overcome challenges and thrive as they prepare for the 21st-century workplace. As part of the CCS District Strategic Plan, the SEL initiative promotes whole-child-centered support services for all, helping students to succeed academically while building employability skills and resiliency. CCS recognizes that undeveloped SEL skills and mental health challenges can lead to negative academic outcomes and ineffective work environments.
