Monday, April 24: Testing Prep at Every Level and What the Score Means
This month, Cumberland Family Academy (CFA) continues its Masterclasses for Today’s Families series with a special virtual presentation on End-of-Grade (EOG) and End-of-Course (EOC) tests in Cumberland County Schools (CCS). The session titled “Testing Prep at Every Level and What the Score Means” will provide families with tips and resources to help prepare students for upcoming EOGs and EOCs.

Monday, March 20: See Something, Say Something: School Safety in CCS
This month, Cumberland Family Academy (CFA) continues its Masterclasses for Today’s Families series with a special virtual presentation from George Hall, the school system’s director of Safety and Security. Mr. Hall’s session, “See Something, Say Something: School Safety in CCS,” will provide viewers with information about safety and security protocols in Cumberland County Schools (CCS) and convey how everyone can do their part to help keep schools safe.

Monday, January 23: Empowering Families: How to Advocate Effectively for Your Child
Cumberland Family Academy (CFA) continues its Masterclasses for Today’s Families series with a special virtual presentation from Dr. Lindsay Whitley, the Associate Superintendent for Communications and Community Engagement. His session titled "Empowering Families: How to Advocate Effectively for Your Child" focuses on ways families can stay engaged in the educational process and effectively advocate for their children’s needs.

Monday, December 5: Building a Love for Literacy
This Masterclass Session for Today’s Families – Building a Love for Literacy – features Dr. Kimberly Johnson, a children’s author, and educator. Dr. Johnson received her Doctorate in Curriculum, Teaching, and Leadership from Northeastern in Boston, MA. She has authored 22 children’s books. Her most recent book, It Starts with Me!, was co-written with Dr. Bernice A. King, the youngest child of civil rights leaders Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King. She currently serves as an assistant professor at Clemson University and an early literacy lead instructor for the National Head Start Association’s Bias Busters Program.
Dr. Johnson is passionate about education but even more passionate about making sure that educators and families know their value. She grew up in a household with grandparents who could not read or write, yet they encouraged her to be the best person she could be. Now, she has committed her life’s journey to “empowering our children to know that they can succeed, no matter what their circumstances are.”

Join us for the first-ever CCS Masterclass for Today’s Families: Helping Students Thrive Socially and Emotionally After COVID-19. Our featured guest is Mr. Mychal Wynn, an author, educator, curriculum developer, and Founder/CEO of the Foundation for Ensuring Access and Equity. Mr. Wynn will serve as the presenter and moderator of a panel of psychologists: Carlton Quarells, PsyD., Karen McCord, PsyD., and Vanessa Daniel English, Ed.D.
