Middle Level Education
-
The Cumberland County School System views the middle schools as a distinct flexible organization designed to meet the intellectual, emotional, social, moral, and physical needs of early adolescents drawn from a multicultural, multiracial community. Consequently, we believe that middle-level education should be designed to aid this unique age group during the transition from elementary to high school with a student-centered emphasis. Instructing these young adolescents should involve staff commitment with high expectations that includes a positive approach to continual learning and social development. Middle-level education promotes maximum individual growth and maintains an atmosphere of respect for individual differences that will encourage each student to assume responsibilities, to become a lifelong learner, and to function as a productive member of our rapidly changing society.
