The Cumberland County School (CCS) system is pleased to announce they are the recipient of two grants awarded from the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), each grant totaling $1.5 million.  The five-year grants will provide social-emotional support to military-dependent students in the CCS.

Expected to positively impact local educators and military families, the grants will serve nearly one-fourth of students in the district who are military dependents.

Frequent moves, transitioning schools, and recurring parent deployments are a few of the issues that can challenge and distract a military-dependent student.  The projects will increase support services for military-connected students in CCS and reduce the number of office behavior referrals by providing four additional Military Student Transition Consultants (MSTC) and Student 2 Student/Jr Student 2 Student programming at targeted schools.  The MSTC staff members will assess the social-emotional needs of incoming or referred military students and transition action plans will be developed and monitored.

Additionally, the grants will help support school faculty and administrators by providing professional training that addresses behavior issues and the needs of military students and families.
