February
1-29 has been designated as Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month in the
Cumberland County Schools. CTE Month is an opportunity to educate students,
parents and the community about all of the services and benefits offered by CTE
programs in local secondary schools.
CTE provides students
with a school-to-career connection and is the backbone of a strong,
well-educated workforce. Through CTE courses, students experience practical,
meaningful applications of reading, writing and mathematics skills.
Participation in Career and Technical Student organizations, which include FBLA,
HOSA, FCCLA, FFA, DECA, SkillsUSA, and TSA, provides students with leadership
opportunities and engages them in their communities.
In honor of CTE
Month, Cumberland County middle and high schools participate in a variety of
activities to promote CTE programs, which include the following: displays,
speakers from the community, field trips, and career fairs. This is also an
opportunity for students to put the skills they have learned in the classroom to
practice in the community. Health Science classes host blood drives and blood
pressure checks, Culinary Arts classes host cafés, and Criminal Justice classes
host mock trials.
For more information
about events that are happening in the schools, contact the CTE facilitators in
the high schools.
