Fifth grade AIG students at New Century
International Elementary recently had the privilege of having
Representative Rick Glazier visit their school. The students have been learning about the court
system, the roles and responsibilities of courtroom officials, the branches of
government, jury trial proceedings and concluded their unit of study with a mock trial of Goldilocks
and the Three Bears. Through their unit of study called “Jury Trials” and their
culminating project, the “Wheel of Court”, the 5th grade AIG students have
learned a lot about the judicial system! During the course of study, the AIG
teacher, Karen Bullard, invited Representative Rick Glazier to come to share
with the class his expertise as a lawyer and Legislator. Representative Glazier
greeted everyone with a warm smile and dove right in. After a brief
introduction, he began by sharing why we have courts, types of trials, types
of witnesses, and talked about the important role that forensics plays in
providing evidence. The information, discussions, and questions throughout his
visit were very informative and a huge success! Representative Glazier had the
whole class in the palm of his hands eagerly wanting to learn more.
